Covid 19 Fatality Age Specific Rates

The meta analysis and systematic review assess age specific infection fatality rates (IFRs) for COVID 19, revealing a clear exponential increase in IFR with age. The analysis, which included 113 studies and 34 locations, found that IFR is extremely low for young people but rises significantly with age, reaching 15% for those aged 85. The study emphasises the importance of age structure and public health measures in managing COVID 19 fatalities. For instance, in scenarios where infections are spread uniformly across ages, total fatalities could be drastically higher compared to scenarios with protective measures for older adults .
